The Ankle Joint

Ankle Joint This joint allows the foot to move up and down in the sagital plane (plantarflexion and dorsiflexion.) Uninterrupted motion of the ankle is achieved by the removal of the Achilles tendon tab at the rear of the MUDROC ™ shoe and following the rounded contour of the heel from front to back and side to side.

The Sub Talar Joint

This joint is the key to efficient running . The tri plane joint allows the foot to modify its mechanical function by converting the foot from a rigid propulsive lever to a flexible adaptive platform. Rotations of the femur and tibia are accommodated by the unique axial position of the sub talar joint. The hostile undulating terrain of the mountain, fell and hill runner requires the sub talar joint to function throughout a complete range of motion without restriction from footwear. MUDROCS unique mid foot design follows the anatomical position of the sub talar joint axis precisely, moving in concert with the natural movement of the foot.

The Mid Tarsal Joint

Mid TarsalThis accommodates uneven terrain between the fore foot (front) and the rear foot (back). In the hostile world of the mountain, fell and hill runner, an inward (inversion) twist or an outward (eversion) twist of the fore foot is only a single step away The mid tarsal joint allows the plane of the fore foot to change without effecting or compromising the position or activity of the rear foot. Once again the unique design of the MUDROC™ mid sole follows exactly the natural biomechanical function of the mid tarsal joint.

The Metatarsophalangeal Joint.

The entire mass of the body pivots around the metatarsophalangeal joints are effectively the crow bars of the foot - providing the propulsive energy needed to lever you forward. Although the five metatarsophalangeal joints act in unison, they must also function independently in order to maximise ground contact and mechanical efficiency The unique Meta-Flex ™ design allows the metatarsophalangeal joints to move independently of each other synchronising the performance of the shoe with the natural function of the foot. MUDROC ™ is the first of a generation of performance footwear to identify the biomechanical function of the foot that is needed to enhance performance over the mountain, hill and fell. By using the foot as our inspiration Mudroc ™ from Inov8 ™ allows the foot to function as it would if you ran barefoot. Nature does not get it wrong.
