Mal Law's short film about short he made at North Head, running "Everest in a day", running up and down North Head in Auckland, 148 times in 24 hours.
Everest in a Day was a training exercise. Mal’s real goal is the CoastPathRun, a 2-week, 1014km odyssey running the South West Coast Path in the UK, which he is doing in June with Tom Bland. The CoastPathRun involves climbing and descending 35,000m or the equivalent of going up and down Everest from sea level 4 times! Another way to think of it is scaling and descending the Sky Tower 180 times (13 times a day). If they made a flight of steps that rose 35,000m then there’d be almost 200,000 steps to climb and descend!
Mal and Tom, and their CoastPathRun is all about promoting exercise, and in particular trail running, as a way of maintaining good mental health. It’s also about supporting charities doing great work in this area. Mal is running to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation NZ, and Tom for it’s UK equivalent.
