The journey to the TransRockies Run- August 2012
Team inov-8 New Zealand - Natalie Seay and Susan Prater
The TransRockies - 6 glorious days of running and 5 nights camping with a bunch of like-minded athletes with all meals and race fuel provided. Or as we like to say “just another training day with full catering provided”.
“You’ve only got three choices in life – give up, give in or give it all you’ve got” -unknown
Happy to report no formal training has started, however that cannot continue for much longer!
Read on for this month’s topics which include
Training Plan for the Transrockies
So how do you put together a training plan for two very different individuals for the same event?
Natalie is able to run huge miles day after day while Susan is plagued by an Achilles injury that restricts the amount of running she can do. So….
1/ we talk about a plan
2/ Natalie will then put together a program and we lock it into our diaries
3/ we will train together occasionally but mostly on our own so we can do what suits our bodies.
We have both completed multiple Ironman races, ultra runs, marathons and cycling events.
So we will follow on from what we have learnt from our past experiences.
Put simply we plan to train 6 days a week and on the 7th day we shall rest – sounds familiar!
The theory is that we will be training on tired legs, therefore simulating the Transrockies event.
Not every day will be running. For Susan on non run days I will be out riding a mountain bike.
We are big believers in cross training so within our programme will be one swim per week – great to stretch your body out and the cold water feels great on a tired body.
Natalie also does Bikram Yoga (hot yoga) once a week mainly for the stretching benefits.
As with everything in life we have to be mindful of work, family and social commitments - what this really means is lots of early mornings so we can fit everything in.
All training and no work or fun would make us very dull indeed – still it’s all good fun to us.
March Mad Events
The Colville Connection – as per usual the team at Total Sport put on a fantastic event at Colville.
Natalie easily won the women’s marathon – first marathon win outright so one happy lady.
Susan tackled the 72km mountain bike and was happy to finally see the finish line. Not the fastest time but results consistent with the training done – longest ride in the month preceding 30km hmmm!
Ironman NZ and Tarawera Ultra Marathon
Both of these events are dear to us as we have competed in them in prior years.
Congrats to all those at Ironman NZ this year – always hard when the weather does not go your way.
Congrats to all those at the Tarawera Ultra – some fantastic stories of success; what might have been and wise decisions to call it a day.
All so inspiring.
Xterra Rotorua and The Nugget – April 2012
We shall both be working at various events on the inov-8 stand so drop by and have a chat with us.
The next event we will be at is the Xterra Rotorua on the 14th April and again at The Nugget on the 21st April – see you there.
Having fun - hope you are too Natalie Seay and Susan Prater
